A solid 9 ct gold Parker 51 - made by S. J. Rose & Son, London 1957 (Hallmarked)

This is a stunning gold pen, made by the London goldsmiths S. J. Rose & Son, London. A well known and high quality maker of gold and silver.

It is based on a classic Parker 51 nib section and aerometric filler system, but has been retrofitted with a hand crafted 9 ct gold barrel and cap - with delicate engine turned decoration.

The pen has a small rectangular (19 x 5 mm) engraving plate on the barrel - it looks to have been previously engraved, and this removed. See photos.

Hallmarked on the barrel, and again on the clip (9 .375), London Assay office and marked b for 1957. Marked S.J.R for the maker.

Condition is excellent. The gold is in near perfect condition and with no dings scratched - only very light signs of use. But note the engraving has been removed from the plate to leave it (almost) blank - it is a little rough. The pen itself in in full working oder. It has been washed and re-filled with blue ink and tested. It writes beautifully with a fine to medium line - really smooth and well balanced when posted. The pen will be sent empty - rinsed and free of ink.

This is a rare pen - and would make a fine addition to a Parker collection. It is also a real pleasure to use.

The pen is boxed in a handmade Chinese (?) pen box - not original, but matching the pen well.
