Galina Panova is one of the greatest Russian ballerinas of all time. Galina Panova was twenty-one and a rising star in the famed Kirov Ballet Company when she married Valery Panov, a noted soloist, who wanted to explore his ideas of choreography and that meant leaving Russia. The government is harsh treatment of the two young people became the center of a worldwide effort to obtain their freedom. Dancers, actors, and ballet lovers picketed in England, Europe, and the United States on behalf of their release from Russia. During all that time, Galina was bombarded with a barrage of pressure from her family and from officials in the government urging her to leave her husband and remain in the country. However, Galina remained loyal to her husband. Finally, they were allowed to leave and since that day, when Galina left her early Russian heritage behind, she has shared her beauty and her talent in a whirlwind of performances that stretch around the globe. In 1982 the Performing Arts Council of the Transvaal (PACT) ballet company invited Galina and Valery to mount his epic ballet at War and Peace at was a most spectacular ballet with the stunningly beautiful, blonde Galina in the leading role. her performance was breathtaking and received critical acclaim.
