Among the world’s elite professional martial arts educators, Dr. Jerry Beasley is a professor of physical education and head of martial arts option at the prestigious Radford University (Radford, VA). Like Bruce Lee, Beasley majored in philosophy as an undergraduate (1973), and then went on to become the first known American to earn both the master’s (1976) and doctoral (1979) degrees in part for his research in martial arts education. A renowned author, Dr. Beasley has published two books about Jeet Kune Do and more than 100 articles in the top martial arts journals. He coined the terms “JKD Matrix,” “pre-’73 JKD,” “JKD Strategies,” and “Trapboxing.”
A veteran of more than 30 years of continuous martial arts training, he is the only person to earn the coveted 8th Degree Black Belt from his mentor – the legendary “Greatest Karate Fighter of All Time,” Joe Lewis. Bruce Lee taught Jeet Kune Do to his top fighter, the world champion Joe Lewis, who in turn taught Dr. Beasley.
A
certified JKD Instructor and Master Teacher, Dr. Beasley is a winner of
numerous national and international hall of fame and head master awards. In
this five video series, Dr. Beasley coves the requirements for testing and
certification in Jun Fan Kickboxing/Jeet Kune Do.
01.
Fundamental
JKD Combat Skills
Bruce Lee’s original pre-’73 art of Jeet Kune
Do has been variously referred to as non-classical Gung Fu, scientific street
fighting, or Jun Fan Kickboxing. The fundamental skills of kicking and punching
and the principles of independent motion and non-telegraphic technique are
covered in detail in volume one. By “using no way as (the one and only) way,”
we can perform Bruce Lee’s skills in whatever way that will work. By seeking no
limitations as limitations, we are unlimited (that is free to explore) in the
ways we can perform Bruce Lee’s skills.

02. Fundamental JKD Combat Strategies
Every art of self-defense is governed by three variables; strategy, attributes and chance. In this program Dr. Jerry Beasley examines the skills for mobility, the straight blast, and the five ways of attack. He demonstrates under the rigors of full contact how to introduce the attribute of deceptiveness to your JKD arsenal. If attributes fail, strategy can still ensure victory. “To float in totality” simply means to respond “using no way as way.” To constantly evolve and progress means that we continually improve our techniques and applications so that we can adapt our skills to meet all situations.

03. JKD Hand Immobilization Attacks (HIA)
“JKD favors formlessness so it can assume all forms.” This video examines the principle of trapping. First we familiarize ourselves with the weapons of trapping range, classical trapping (Wing Chun Style), alternative trapping methods, and boxing style immobilizations. The concept of trapboxing is then introduced by demonstrating that trapping, as a principle, may assume all forms that work.
