Here's an early 19th century oak valuables box with 2 interior drawers in original old finish.  The box is oak with white pine secondary wood. The case is hand dovetailed and the 2 little drawers with felt lined bottoms are joined with square cut nails. The hinges are original and made of brass. There is no lock or key and it appears that the box may have had an inlaid key escutcheon. One very remarkable and special thing about the construction of the box is that there are 2 dovetailed splines on the inside of the top presumably to keep it from warping. The "knobs" on the interior drawers are old flathead screws that probably aren't original but have been there for a long time.  The box is 12.5 inches wide X 8.75 inches deep X 6.5 inches high. There's a small chip missing from the molding on the back side of the lid as you can see in the picture but it doesn't detract from the overall look of the box. I like the old dark original surface.
