Gorgeous and impressive sculpture by artist Joseph Swaluk called “ The Guardian”

A likelike and lifesized sunfish or blue gill in its environment, it measures about 8-3/4” high and wide, about 4-3/4” deep. The fish is about 7-3/4” long.

Incredibly lifelike - carved and painted by a master- already sought after, his work is not mass produced and will only increase in value as time goes by.

Signed, dated and numbered on the bottom - looks to burnt into the wood

As a life-long fishermen and former high school woodworking teacher, Joe's keen interests and well-developed skills come together in the creation of superb works of art. Joe has been carving fish for twenty-two years and has created over 450 individually designed fresh and saltwater fish sculptures. Each piece is hand-carved with knives and chisels out of basswood and hand-painted with acrylics.

Joe started doing fish because he felt the world of outdoor art was replete with birds and manimals, while marine subjects were largely overlooked. Each year he fills commissions on piscine art ranging from a relatively simple carving of a brook trout or sunfish to elaborate wall sculptures of big gamefish chasing bait. The fish are done life- size and artistically designed to show drama and beauty.
