Product Description
NENETTE ET BONI is the soundtrack to the Claire Denis film.
Tindersticks: Dickon Hinchliff (vocals, guitar, violin); Stuart Staples (vocals, guitar); Neil Fraser (guitar); David Boutler (piano, organ, percussion); Mark Colwill (bass); Alasdair Macaulay (drums, percussion).
The marriage of Tindersticks' moody, cinematic lounge music and the dark, noir-ish romance that is the basis of Claire Denis's 1997 film "Nenette Et Boni" seems like it was brokered by some heavenly avant-garde-minded power. Not a soundtrack so much as a score made up of 14 minimalist musical vignettes (only "Petites Gouttes D'Eau" [aka "Tiny Tears"] features Stuart Staples's vocals), the collection defines the music within a context it has always served--barely lit visuals riding a wave of melancholia. Piano and marimba carry the lush, mid-tempo rhythms just long enough to paint a distinct picture, only to disappear in the muddy surf of emotional hopelessness. Just as with much of their other work, these feelings of despair are mostly carried over in the band's instrumental weaves, rather than melodies and tempos. Tindersticks have always known how best to serve an intricate mood; this film score is just the latest example of their power to do so.
