48 Baseball's Great Hall of Fame Exhibits - "Big Ed" Walsh - SGC 3
On the card - Sold at penny arcades, carnivals, or other places where you might find vending machines, the 1948 Hall of Fame Exhibit Baseball Card Set, consisting of 33 cards, was crafted by the Exhibit Supply Company (ESCO) of Chicago.  Among the collection, there are dual cards showcasing Babe Ruth, and the remaining 31 cards feature distinguished baseball Hall of Fame luminaries from the early 1900s.  The Hall of Fame Exhibit cards present a monochromatic black and white print.  Each card showcases a portrait of a Hall of Fame player, accompanied by the player's name scripted in cursive font. The cards are designed with pillars along the left and right edges, imitating the look of a coliseum, while the top portion bears the title “Baseball’s Great Hall of Fame.”  The bottom section of the cards contains biographical details about the player's career.  The reverse side of the cards is left blank.  Each card measures 3 3/8" by 5 3/8", resembling the dimensions of a standard postcard.

It is important to note that these cards were later reprinted.  When purchasing, check to ensure that what you are purchasing is, like this card for sale, from the original 1948 set, not a later reproduction.

On the Player - Edward Augustine, commonly known as "Big Ed" Walsh, made a mark as an American pitcher and manager in Major League Baseball. His standout performances from 1906 to 1912 positioned him among the premier pitchers in the league, although his career was curtailed due to injuries. Walsh's legacy includes holding the record for the lowest career earned run average at an impressive 1.82. He stands as one of only two modern-era pitchers (post-1901) to secure 40 or more wins in a single season, achieving a feat that hasn't been replicated since. Additionally, Walsh is recognized as the last pitcher across all teams to throw over 400 innings in a solitary season, a remarkable accomplishment he achieved in both 1907 and 1908.
