Tilsit - On Old Postcards 


This lavishly illustrated book is devoted to Tilsit or Sovetsk. Before 1946 known as Tilsit in German in East Prussia, is a town in Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia, located on the south bank of the Neman River.

Depicted is the old town of Tilsit mainly in the period of 1899-1920 prior war destruction, since about 60% of the city was destroyed in 1944.

The opening of Queen Louise Bridge across the Memel river is shown as well as churches, streets, schools, bridges, old cars, streetcar, carriages, parks, in the rear are some post war photos to compare with old cityscape and to show what's left of the old city.
