Beautiful single antique cup and saucer by the Limoges factory known as Maureil Chapeau et Charles (CMC). Little is known about this factory except that they operated from about 1890-1914. The underglaze and overglaze backstamps on the saucer indicate that this set was both manufactured and decorated by CMC. The decoration is truly exquisite with a motif of hand painted pink roses surrounded by gilt rose swags and a gold encrusted laurel band around the top of the cup and the rim of the saucer. The cup measures 1 3/4" tall and 3 1/2" in diameter across the top, and the saucer measures 5 1/2" in diameter. Unfortunately, the cup has a chip on the foot (see closeup), although the chip is hard to see when the cup is upright. The cup also has a few tiny spots of wear on the gilt trim. The saucer is in great condition with just some roughness on the foot, and no noticeable wear to the decoration. This is a gorgeous set in spite of the damage, by an infrequently found Limoges maker, and would make a great addition to an antique cup and saucer collection!
