This bar and chain combo is slightly thicker than the factory MS170 bar. This upgrade from .043 gauge to .050 gauge allows for a thicker, heavier duty, professional chain. This COPPERHEAD semi-chisel PRO chain should cut faster, throw larger chips, and last longer than the standard factory STIHL semi-chisel chain. Semi-chisel chains are also a better option if you are cutting in dirty conditions such as roots, rotten wood, stumps, etc. Semi-chisel chains may cut slightly slower than full chisel chains, but they tend to hold an edge better in harsh cutting conditions. Another benefit is that most of the time you don't have to remove quite as much material on a semi-chisel chain when sharpening as you do a full chisel chain. BE SURE TO NEVER INSTALL A .043 GAUGE CHAIN ON A .050 GAUGE BAR, OR VICE VERSA. DOING SO CAN DAMAGE THE BAR AND CHAIN.
