El Clamor Público (The Public Outcry)

The first Spanish language newspaper in southern California.  Includes every issue from June 19, 1855 to December 31, 1859.

Published, edited, and printed by Francisco P. Ramírez, who was just 19 years old when the paper first appeared, El Clamor Público chronicled, from the native Spanish speaking perspective, the gradual adjustment of Los Angeles' majority Californios population to Anglo domination in the decade after the annexation of California into the United States.  Ramírez made a regular practise of exposing Anglo injustices and championing the rights of the first generation of Mexican-Americans.

El Clamor Público has been called one of the most powerful historical documents of post-Mexico California.

Includes the complete four and a half year run of this groundbreaking newspaper on two microfilm reels.
  - Reel 1:  June 19, 1855 to June 24, 1857
  - Reel 2:  July 4, 1857 to December 31, 1859
