Vintage Manual Wind Mechanical SMITHS Dashboard Motor Watch - RALLY TIMER - Dashboard Mount.

THE LISTING INCLUDES SMITHS MOTOR WATCH ON DASHBOARD BACK PLATE.

A really nice piece which would look fantastic on the dash of your classic car is this fantastic 1950’s/1960’s period original SMITHS ‘Motor Dashboard Watch’ which is in fantastic condition.

I have the same fitted to my own car and have done for a number of years (I have included photos of the same installed to my classic dashboard for illustration purposes only, the stopwatch’s are NOT included).

MOUNTING PLATE

The watch is mounted to a very high quality custom made polished backplate which has been made specifically for this piece. The watch is secured to the aluminium dash plate with stainless steel machined posts. Securing the watch in this way means it can be left in the vehicle when unattended. Spring watch clips or magnets are less secure as the watches can be easily removed by other interested third parties.

The plate has been machined, immediately behind the watch winder, so as to allow an easy wind. Without this piece of design and in certain circumstances (depending on your dashboard) there can be insufficient room between the mounting plate and dash to easily wind the watch (unless you have thin fingers).

There are rear mounted fixing screws and wing nuts to the rear of the plate for a secure dash mount. Additionally, the rear of the plate is totally flush with no screw heads protruding, this enables a flush flat surface mounting. Measurements are shown in the photos.

The mounting plate is a quality piece in both its engineering and in its design. Its been hand made by an engineer with years of experience in both vehicle restoration and motor sport preparation. I doubt you’ll find a better example.

SMITHS MOTOR WATCH

The watch was manufactured in Great Britain by SMITHS with all parts being made of brass. They usually have a magnet attached to the rear of the case for fixing to the dashboard. In this instance the magnet has been removed.

CONDITION

The watch is in very good used condition.

The face is nice and clear and appears to be very clean. The hands are nice and straight with the second hand moving freely. There are no cracks to the glass which remains intact. The watch works as it should, at the time of listing it’s been running for three days continuously and hasn’t missed a beat. The chrome watch case shows minor signs of age and use but having said that it’s very good indeed.

Please note that 100% accurate time keeping can-not be guaranteed due to age and use. These are period mechanical time keepers and will not be as accurate as modern day electronic devices.

NOTE - The listing includes the SMITHS Motor Watch and dash mount plate (with fixings) ONLY. Anything seen in the background is NOT included.

All in all a really nice piece with period appeal and visually very attractive.

Please take a GOOD LOOK at the photos as they form part of the description.
