This vintage Acoma canteen pot shows a delightful Acoma bird sitting on a flowering branch. When the canteen is sitting at a slant on its flat bottom, it measures 3 1/2" tall and approximately 4" across. Overall, the condition of this pot is good. There are the normal small pits from the traditional firing. Also, there is chipping of paint on the lip of the spout and the two handles. And, the flower at the end of the branch has some paint missing. The design of this polychrome pot shows well. This would be a great piece of display.

Recent excavations on Acoma Mesa tend to suggest that Acoma was inhabited before the time of Christ. Archaeologists agree that it has been continuously occupied from at least A.D 1200. Acomas claim always to have lived on their mesa, hospitably receiving wandering tribes to share their valley which, at one time, had plenty of water and was excellent for farming.
