********Buyers Reviews****

(1) The Codex Gigas of Gear Books -- a massive shrine to the glory of vintage guitars

(2) Where do we start? There are large, heavy duty gear books....and then there is The Guitar Collection. A gear book so massive, so overwhelmingly ambitious in its undertaking that it has to be shipped in a scaled-down case. A tome so gigantic that even it's smaller companion book (included in the case) is even larger than most gear books you'll find. The case might seem like a cute packaging option, but I assure you it's entirely necessary.

(3) Anybody skeptical about the list price should really try and hold one (with a spotter, for safety) to realize the ambition of a book like this. Even at the list price, there is no way the publisher made a huge profit on this series.

And the content! Short of heading to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and casually playing these legendary instruments, it would be impossible to get closer or more intimate with these guitars. In fact, I see details in the massive photos that I would probably miss actually holding the guitar. This is - by far - the most impressive gear book that I've ever seen.

The only downside (if you even want to call it that), is that this book is so massive that it's hard to hold it and read. You need to prop it on a sturdy table to hold the thing. Luckily the companion book has basically the same guitars, but in smaller form so it's easier to read that and then swap to the big copy when you want to see something up close and personal.
