This collectable keepsake ornament is the latest offering from the American Women Quarters™ Program!

From 2022-2025, this historic program celebrates the accomplishments and contributions made by prominent women of the United States. All of the honorees—representing ethnically, racially, and geographically diverse backgrounds—distinguished themselves in a wide variety of fields and endeavors, including suffrage, civil rights, abolition, government, humanities, science, space, the arts, and many others.

As the first American woman to soar into space aboard the Challenger on June 18, 1983, Dr. Sally Ride captured the Nation’s imagination as a symbol of the ability of women to shatter barriers. Her historic flight aboard the space shuttle represented just one aspect of a remarkable and multi-faceted life—she was also a physicist, athlete, science writer, and inspirational leader in science education.

This keepsake ornament is exquisitely designed and hand-crafted in solid brass with a rhodium finish. The intricate design elements highlight Ride’s historic journey on the space shuttle, as well as the American flag that was on her flight jacket sleeve. Another element reflects her accomplishments as an author of children’s books, and the swirling atoms represent that, first and foremost, she was a physicist.

Framed by the ornament is a 2022 quarter with the reverse (tails) design depicting Dr. Sally Ride next to a window aboard the space shuttle, inspired by her quote, “But when I wasn’t working, I was usually at a window looking down at Earth.” The inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM” is intentionally positioned over the Earth next to America, indicating that out of all women in the U.S., she was the first into space. Additional inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “QUARTER DOLLAR,” and “DR. SALLY RIDE.” The obverse (heads side) of the quarter is not visible. A matching ribbon is attached to the top of the ornament for easy display.

This one-of-a-kind ornament is beautifully protected by matching packaging with DR. SALLY RIDE, 2022, and the American Women Quarters logo embossed on the top of the box. It includes a certificate of authenticity, along with an explanation of the ornament’s design elements and a brief biography of the honoree.
