DESCRIPTION

- An antique/vintage blue jewelry box lined with ivory-coloured satin and blue-coloured velvet. It has decorative gilding and a leather ‘effect’ on the exterior. This jewelry box (estimated circa the 1910s - 1920s) opens and closes with a push-button closure. It would complement a small piece of jewelry beautifully.

Some relevant dates:

- Early advertisements indicate T.W. Long & Co. (Thomas William Long & Co.) were prize cup and medal specialists, diamond merchants, jewellers, gold and silversmiths. They were trading at 2 St. Mary Street by 1913 and continued doing business at this location until at least 1920. £3,000 worth of jewellery was reported missing from the shop during a burglary on April 27, 1920.

CONDITION 

- Overall, the jewelry box is in excellent antique/vintage condition and still enjoyable for many more years to come. It bears signs of wear commensurate with age and use. Surfaces have marks and scratches that one would expect in a piece of this age. These ‘imperfections’ add character to the piece rather than take away from it

- There is light wear on the exterior (on the lid and around the four corners and edges)

- Note: The exterior has a leather ‘effect’ but it is not leather

- The interior is clean and does not have any unpleasant scent

- The velvet insert is removable

- The hinge, push-button and catch work well. The closure is secure

- All of the above are shown in the photos provided

- There is no visible evidence of a previous repair or restoration
