Here's a rare c.1950 vintage 'Professional' model Bb Boehm system clarinet by Jean Cartier of France. This is probably a stencil horn, (Jean Cartier was a name used on saxophones made by Dolnet, so this could be their clarinet), but very well made! I've included a nice writeup that I found on another clarinet site on my page, but can't link it here.

The instrument is made of fine grenadilla wood and nickel alloy keys, posts and rings, with a bore of .575". All pieces are original, no cracks or repairs. Its been disassembled, soaked in oil, swedged and countersunk, body, keys and posts buffed, new white Roo leather pads and corks installed. This well made clarinet is in great shape for its age and has a warm, open tone with good intonation and comfortable ergonomics. Comes with original case in solid condition. Please note that auctions may end at any time, as these instruments are often also offered on my site - 'The Vintage Clarinet Doctor" - where more pics and information are available.

Why Vintage Clarinets?

I believe that vintage clarinets represent one of the most under-priced and underutilized resources on the market. While there is some junk out there, there are many makes and models that are good to excellent players if properly overhauled and that will provide satisfaction to collectors, students and even pro players while saving the buyer hundreds of dollars! Nickel and grenadilla wood are increasingly finite resources and the craftsmanship on some of these old horns makes them a real pleasure to own. Why not try a vintage clarinet from the Vintage Clarinet Doctor see the difference for yourself?
