This is a special Silver item from France from the late 19th Century - 2 pieces 
Silver Serving Piece / Centerpiece by Prevost Recipon & Cie (with a lamp) marked and stamped  8533 
(which I believe indicates that it was made in the last quarter of 19th century)
The oval serving dish with open-work sides of floral garlands and ribbons ; 
bead borders ; applied rope-twist handles ;  rams head on sides ; berry top finial ; on acanthus leaves and berries with hairy hooves.
There is a center crest Once held a glass bowl
I believe that this is Silver or Silverplate with Gold - See inside of cover
A colleague believes that it is plate - I am not an expert in Silver
There are no dents, warps or dings - No scratches observed but there may be superficial scratches from polishing over the years.   
This items should be professionally cleaned
 Measures approx as follows: Bottom tray is 11" length and 7 1/2" wide; Total Height with cover - 8 1/4" and 4" without cover
