In 'The Green Book of Forgiveness', the author sequentially shares the impact and benefits of forgiveness on our well-being as humans. Bashirat Abdulwahab makes the reader discern that throughout our sojourn in life, we would experience pain and hurt caused directly or indirectly by people (loved ones & otherwise). Hence, we must learn how to forgive. And by so doing, we rid ourselves of being consumed by anger, pain, resentment and hatred. I particularly like this quote from the book, "To forgive is to set a prisoner free and realise that prisoner was you."
