This area of Scotland is abundant with golf courses and playing fields, so it’s not surprising that the majority of his inspiration has come from sport and its personalities.
  • Craig studied at The Glasgow School of Art and then spent his early years working in London as a Graphic Illustrator for several of the leading agencies. Having decided to paint for a living, Craig returned to Glasgow. His close attention to detail soon earned him prestigious exhibitions, a successful American tour and a show of his golf paintings at the Open. His love for all sports, golf in particular, brought him back to his painting.
  • After graduating from Glasgow School of Art, he worked as an illustrator in London before joining De Montfort fine art publishers, specialising in sport. His work is mostly recognised through his sporting and Tam O'Shanter images. He now concentrate on portraiture. Cambells paintings continue to attract a growing number of art collectors that include many media and sports personalties.
  • Patrons and famous clients of his include Sean Connery, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Arnold Palmer, Tiger Woods, Grey Norman, Jeff Bezos and most recently for the Trump family, President Donald J. Trump.
  • Muirfield the club course was built in 1891 by old Tom Morris for a cost of £1,574, the original clubhouse was unkindly described as a ‘box-framed’ salon with its Elizabethan design and half-timbered main gable. The designer, Hall Blyth a Past Captain of the Club was an engineer but not an architect and it would be interesting to know exactly what he thought when he introduced this exotic pattern to Muirfield. i sits behind the 18th green as one of the truly iconic images in world championship golf. At the west end of the clubhouse near the entrance gates is the ladies’ Locker Room with the adjacent Captain’s Room and Muirfield Room. At the far end of the building is the men’s Locker Room with a Smoking Room and Dining Room between.
  • Muirfield hosted the first of its 16 Opens in 1892. It was the first Open to be played over 72 holes. The course is renowned as being perhaps the fairest test of all The Open venues, with two circuits of nine rotating in opposite directions, the back nine looping inside the front nine, ensuring that golfers never face the same wind direction on two consecutive holes.
