This hardcover book contains the May, June, July, August, September and October 1931 issues of TRAVEL magazine published by Robert M. McBride & Co. of New York. The 10 x 12-¾ inch book has the color front cover of the May 1931 magazine and an Index of articles and important places mentioned in the magazine, as well as an alphabetical list of multiple authors who contributed to these magazines 93 years ago.

The 350+ pages in these issues of TRAVEL have heavily illustrated articles about Austria’s capital Vienna, Manila, Pittsburgh and its history in steel and coal, German vineyards, new cities in Russia (which included Ukraine at the time), St. Malo, Turkestan, American skyscrapers, Sintra in Portugal, mountain climbing in Scotland, Samoa, whale hunting by Indians along the Olympic Peninsula, Macao, the Capitol building in Washington DC, slave traders in Abyssinia, Tallinn in Estonia, Mount of the Holy Cross in Colorado, ….

The 93 year old advertising from the early days of travel is equally interesting. Advertisers include the Italian Tourist Office ENIT, Swiss Federal Railways, French Lines, American Express, US Lines, the Dorchester Hotel in London, Cunard, Hartmann Trunks, Cadillac, Greyhound, Studebaker, Thomas Cook, Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto, NYK Line, the Los Angeles Biltmore, North German Lines, Canadian Pacific as well as ads for Bass walking shoes and seasick remedies.

Our photos show the actual May-October 1931 TRAVEL magazines offered for sale. The magazines were printed on high-quality, coated paper and they were bound by the public library in Rapid City, South Dakota. The red hardcover book has a tight spine and no odor.
