Midgetoy Die Cast Sport
Cars
1960's Corvettes &
Cooper Fords
Dime Store Counter Top
Display Box of 36
This extraordinary Midgetoy Dime Store Display Set has 36
distinctive sports cars from the 1960's. All are die cast metal, and have hard
rubber wheels. They are 2 inches long. There are at least a dozen Corvettes and
many Cooper Fords. There is a good color variety.
Sport Cars were an anomaly of the 1960's and the toy
industry was no exception. These distinguished cars were made with exceptional
details. The Vette has an open engine with highly detailed components. Check
out the side headers! The Coopers have a rear open engine with all 8 cylinder
exhaust pipes straddling the motor. These car sets have been sitting in the toy
factory warehouse for over a half of a century! Some have minor paint flecks, a
few have surface rust on the axles. Other than that, they are in great shape.
This set of vintage sport cars come in the original
"Point of Sale" counter-top store display box. The box is the style
that you fold the top marquis out and back, and it makes a nice display / sales
unit. The sides of the box say, 3 Dozen ~ Midgetoy ~
36 Toys ~ A & E Tool and Gage Co., Rockford, ILL. The box is red,
white and blue. It looks very attractive on a shelf. The car colors vary
slightly from box to box, but there are Corvettes and Cooper Fords in various
colors. The photo is of a typical box. The brighter colors like pink &
orange had a little overspray onto the wheels. It is an original
Midgetoy characteristic. When I pointed it out, Al Herdklotz told me,
"We Make Toys for Kids on the Other Side of the Tracks, the kids wear it
off the first day they have it. It wipes off with paint thinner and a rag." They sold Die Cast cars for less than everyone else. They had the
most durable Die Cast toy vehicles made.
The display marquis reads Midgetoy ~ No Sharp Edges,
Beautifully Finished, Break Resistant, Die Cast Construction, Ideal size, Built
for Hard Play. It also proclaims, Step on it! It won't Break and Wheels Won't
Mar or Scratch! The box is 7 ½ inches long, 5 inches wide and 2 inches thick,
it has "Egg Crate" style cardboard separators that keep the cars from
banging against each other and getting scratched. It is bedecked with the
Midgetoy elves, and it says, 5¢ in a price circle with
an elf on it.
No zip code, no bar code. The interior of the box has
cardboard Egg Crate style separators with 36 pockets, each
containing a Midgetoy Sport Car. It also comes with a certificate of
authenticity from Midgetoy owners and creators, Al & Earl Herdklotz.
It’s heavy, 2 Lbs. shipping weight. Buyer pays actual
priority mailing depending on Zip code.
