Description

An Antique Rosewood Writing Slope or Lap Desk, of exceptional Quality and very Decorative, with vbery elaborate Brass Bands and inlays to the Exterior.

The Desk opens up to reveal a Leather covered writing surface which is in reasonable order and was probably replaced in the last few years. Around the edges of the Interior there are further Brass insets; the ones at the front would originally have held Candle Sconces.

There is a Lift up Brass support for the Desk when it is elevated. This has a rachet support for adjustment.

Behind the front of the Desk there are spaces which contain a removable Pen Tray and two lidded compartments which are inlaid with Brass lines.

There is a secret Compartment beneath which has a sprung panel which is activated by lifting a divider above. There are two small secret drawers behind the panel. These have bone finials.

The front and back of the Writing surface lift up to reveal spaces for papers etc.

To the side of the Desk there is a full length drawer which is secured by means of a Brass bolt.

Brass carrying handles to each side.

Circa 1830.
