Major Hewitt was credited with 8.3 victories from Sept 1943 to June 1945. From March through June 1945 he was Commanding Officer of 82nd Fighter Squadron and by war’s end he had been awarded the Air Medal with 17 Oak Leaf Clusters, The Distinguished Flying Cross with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters and The Silver Star.
Major Hewitt nicknamed his fighter “Big Dick” the craps call for double fives and added an illustration of two dice to the nose.

The plane is signed on a plate attached to the bottom of the planes wing serial numbered 0027/1000 and comes with a Franklin Mint matching numbered certificate of authenticity.
