PARTICULARLY NICE CARVED Large 11" REVOLUTIONARY WAR POWDER HORN

DESCRIPTION: Nicely carved, unusual antique Revolutionary War POWDER HORN, used to store gun powder by individual riflemen for use with their flintlock muskets.

This one has nice looking curves, and has a nice domed wooden butt plug.   Also has a nicely carved pouring end. Measures about 11" along its length. This one is VERY MUCH THE STYLE OF A REVOLUTIONARY WAR POWDER HORN.

IN FACT, IT COULD BE EVEN EARLIER....HAS A SMALL HOLE BORED INBETWEEN THE EDGE OF THE BUTT PLUG AND THE EDGE OF THE HORN.  Used to feed through the shoulder strap.   This style was actually more common during the French & Indian War, about 10 years or more before the revolution.

Has nice tiny handmade iron nails to hold the wooden butt plug in. BUTT PLUG FiTS NICELY.

This has all the attributes of a Revolutionary War or earlier period horn, including color and appearance, patina, style, design, and carving detail.  Has a great look to it, nice size and look, for addition to a collection or to hang with a musket over a fireplace.

Nice condition, and only minor insect damage in a couple of tiny places.   A particularly nice horn, from an early Massachusetts estate.
