The Plymouth was totally restyled for 1939, it was longer, lower, and wider, with headlamps now within the fenders. The 1940 cars' wheelbase was stretched 3 inches, in addition, the engine was moved 4 inches forward, so the passenger compartment increased in size with the seats now cradled inside the suspension, rather than over it.
