History of Boba

The origin of bubble tea, aka boba, dates back to the 1980s in Taiwan when the idea of serving tea cold first started to gain popularity in the country. Local sellers soon began combining fen yuan, a popular tapioca pudding dessert, with cold black tea. Taiwanese immigrants would transport this sweet tea treat to the United States during the 1990s and later around the rest of the globe where countless offshoot combinations of tea, milk, and tapioca pearls would begin to explode.
