Hi there,

I am pleased to present my range of 3d printed catenary portals, based on the BR Mark 1 25kV designs, as can be seen on the West Coast Main Line, Great Eastern Main Line, LTS and other lines electrified under BR circa 1958 - 1968.

This specific model is a replica of the standard 4-track angled section lattice portal, commonly seen around major stations and out on the open road 4 track sections of the WCML.

Dimensions of a made up portal are H-110mm, W-340mm, D-10mm.   The centre section can also be omitted to build a smaller 2 or 3 track portal of 220mm wide - Shown in picture 3. Shorter centre lattice sections (reduces overall width by 5cm) can also be supplied on request.

These are made from 3d printed UV cured resin and very easy to assemble with superglue in around 5 minutes.  They can then be painted as desired - I use a spray can of grey plastic primer, then airbrush on light metallic grey enamel for the portal and hand paint the registration fittings light green to represent the copper plated parts, and dark gloss brown for the the glazed ceramic insulators.

Please note, the overhead line support fittings are very delicate and for cosmetic use only.  For mechanically functional systems you will need to solder your own fittings out of 0.6/0.7mm brass wire. I can supply the electrical insulators seperately for this purpose.

UPDATE:  All registration fittings are now made from "super tough" resin to make them less brittle and more resillient for shipping and handling during assembly etc.   They are however still very fine parts and need to be handled with care.

Picture 2 shows parts as supplied for each portal. The registration fittings must be cut from their print supports. This is best done with small cuticle scissors. The parts can then be carefully de-burred with a small file or fine wet and dry / sand paper. The other photos show the assembled structure primed but not painted. The electric locomotive is to illustrate scale and is not included in the sale.

Please note that in an effort to keep these as scale and accurate looking as possible they are quite delicate and therefore not suitable for children or any environment where they are likely to get knocked about. These will be printed to order, I do not stock pile anything so please allow upto 48 hours for the items to be printed, cured and dispatched.

UV cured resin parts should be stored away from direct sunlight as this may cause them to warp and become brittle over time. It is recommended they be assembled and painted as soon after purchase as possible to best preserve the strength and resilience of the resin material.

Thanks for looking, and questions, comments or feedback welcome!  Cheers, and happy modelling, Niall BlueFlash
