Extremely rare circa 1935 original Negro Leagues baseball photo featuring the Durham Black Sox.
The photo was taken at the old El Toro Park in Durham, North Carolina. The El Toro Park was destroyed by fire in 1939. However the of 1938 written on the back of the photo is a mistake. The famous Negro League player Quincy Bud Barbee (New York Black Yankees) only played two seasons for the Durham Black Sox in 1935 and 1936.
The Durham Black Sox was a legendary independent Negro League team active from the early 1920’s up to 1939. For two decades, the Durham Black Sox was considered to be one of the best team in United States. The defeated several great teams such as the Homestead Grays, the Cuban Stars, the New York Black Yankees or even the Pittsburgh Crawfords.
I personally made lots of research on the Durham Black Sox and compiled a great amount data on that team. I will be more than happy to share what I found on that team. Many players on that photo are considered to best players in baseball history of North Carolina; William Barbee, Quincy Barbee, William Cradock, Roosevelt Ashmore, John Rice, etc.
The circa 1935 Durham Black Sox was an amazing baseball squad feared all across the nation. The only reason they are not famous out of North Carolina nowadays is because it was an independent team traveling to play exhibition games. They even played many games against prison baseball team.

Amazing addition to any baseball collection focused on Negro League baseball history. If you have any question on that team or the photo, please free to ask.
