To celebrate the opening of a new Jimmy Ryan's club, clarinetist Tony Parenti and his "Deans of Dixieland" (mostly musicians who had played at the original Jimmy Ryan's) recorded this enjoyable LP. Parenti is joined by trumpeter Max Kaminsky, trombonist Conrad Janis, pianist Dick Wellstood, banjoist Davis Quinn, Joe Henshaw on tuba and drummer Zutty Singleton. Parenti and the brilliant Wellstood consistently take the solo honors on a couple of basic originals ("Blues for Jimmy Ryan" and "Down at Jimmy Ryan's") and six standards including "Strut Miss Lizzie," "Shim-Me-Sha-Wobble" and "That's a Parenti" (a cute retitling of "That's A Plenty"). Spirited trad music. ~ Scott Yanow
