Purchased back around 1990 from the estate of a serious collector of 19th-Century American toys.  If my memory is correct, this exact toy was featured along with several others and a "Feather Tree" in a Christmas display he created for one of the local libraries in Schenectady NY.  I remember that he borrowed two of my wife's antique quilts for this wonderful display.

That's all the history I know about this.

DETAILS:  The horse is permanently mounted on a 10-1/2" x 3" green platform.  The platform has four 1-3/8" red wheels which appear to be original and are each attached by a round head nail or stud. The toy stands about 9-1/2" tall at its peak.  Excellent paint - about 95%.  The legs are fixed to the base so I don't think they could move, however there is paint wear and old glue residue where the legs fit into slots made on the body, so they may have come loose at some point in this toy's past.

The pull string is gone as often is the case with these.

Three of the wheels move easily, while one moves with difficulty.

Various numbers or letters are stamped on the underside of the base, including what looks like "L.70" in pencil, "02373" stamped in old ink, and "Out" or "Oui" (?) stamped in old ink.

It' a great early wooden toy in great condition.
