Korg Prologue 16

Description

The Korg Prologue 16 is the flagship synthesizer from Korg, offering up to 16 multitimbral voices on a 61-key bed. It is fully-programmable - a large step forward from the four-voice Minilogue and monophonic Monologue. The Prologue is built with 11,000 carefully picked discrete analog components, similar to earlier synths in the series. But now, the Prologue 16 is equipped with a digital multi-engine and lush 32-bit floating point DSP-based effects for an intuitive experience, easy parameter recall and endless sound design capabilities like never before.

The sound engine in the Prologue is structured in the order of 2VOC, Multi Engine, 1VCF, 2EG, 1VCA and 1LFO. Every stage of the Prologue is a vast improvement from the Minilogue and Monologue including the addition of wave shaping, added depth and low-end for bass and drum tones, expanded headroom and gain stages for lead tones, and an increased dynamic range and sensitivity for all the lush pads. Korg has also included a two-pole low-pass filter with sharper slopes than ever before, drive controls and a low cut (high-pass) switch.

The newly developed multi-engine is a VCO3, including three separate sound engines and four unique noise generators. It also allows digital waveforms and FM synthesis to be combined with the analog signal path. VPM or Variable Phase Modulation was developed exclusively for the Prologue, offering 16 types of oscillators and a range of overtones that were never possible with a pure analog signal path. The digital VPM combined with the pure analog filters is unique to the Prologue and offers a sound unlike any other synth on the market.

Get the most weight and punch from the low-end with the exclusive master effect “L.F. Comp”, now achieve dynamic tones that aren't quite possible with just an EQ. This effect works wonders for getting the most dynamic range at extreme listening or stage performance volumes. Keep an eye on the compression and output level with the front panel VU meter.

The Prologue 16 provides multiple ways to control the exact amount of Polyphony required by the performance patch. POLY is the standard mode which allows up to 16 voices to be triggered simultaneously. Engage MONO mode while using the sub-oscillator for bass lines. UNISON mode triggers all voice modes in unison, best used for generating huge aggressive lead tones. CHORD mode will trigger a variety of different chord voicings with only one finger on the keyboard. The DEPTH knob works as a unique control depending on what mode you’re working in.

The Prologue is also Bi-Timbral, allowing the user to play two different program modes at once. Expanding on the traditional layer and split modes, the Prologue 16 can now gracefully crossfade between the main and secondary timbre.
