Here is an Absolutely Beautiful & Extremely-Rare Long Out-of-Print (OOP) 1977 Color Halftone Lithographic Print That Depicts a Large Anchor & Chain Sitting in the Backyard of a Sea Captain’s Home in Maine, Amidst the Craggly Apple Trees titled, “Sea Anchor”, after the original 1971 watercolor painting by the world-famous listed painter, ‘Andrew Newell Wyeth’ (American, 1917-2009) whose printed signature appears lower-right in the image corner, and is in a private collection.

About the Painting: By placing the enormous sea anchor and chain in the foreground of “Sea Anchor”, the artist symbolizes man’s link with the land while at sea. At the same time, the abandoned anchor used long ago represents the transition between the age of great vessels and our present era of mechanized shipping. The prominent wizened and twisted trees have borne the brunt of many a storm from the northern sea. In the background is the house of a ship’s captain, built from the proceeds of global wanderings and struggles to master the sea. It is a large house, but simple and sturdy in design. As with his other watercolors, Andrew Wyeth painted Sea Anchor with boldness and conviction; the artist knows the people of Maine, their backgrounds, and their environment. The career of the nineteenth century sea captain and his exploits have long faded from prominence; only his white clapboard house and rusting anchor remain to represent him. Publisher & Print Info: The artist’s copyright, date & name, ‘Copyright © 1977 by Andrew Wyeth’, appears printed lower-left in the bottom outer margin area just beneath the image; The title & artist’s name, ‘Sea Anchor, by, ANDREW WYETH’, appears printed lower-middle; The distributor info, ‘Distributed by New York Graphic Society Ltd.’, appears printed lower-right respectively; The printing info, ‘Printed in U.S.A. by Triton Press Inc., N.Y.C.’, appears printed lower-right on the bottom outer margin corner; and the inventory number, ‘6527’, appears printed upper-right in the top outer margin corner. The Print is on a nice heavier-weight ivory-colored wove paper stock.

Size & Condition: The size with margins is 23-3/8” x 29-15/16”, Image size is 18-7/8” x 25-15/16”. The Print is in Excellent Rare+ condition for its vintage age with absolutely no color fade. This Print had been tucked away amongst other vintage lithos & prints since it was purchased by Meibohm Fine Arts and hasn’t seen the light of day in all this time—it’s as beautiful as the day it was printed and is as ‘Mint’ as any collector could hope to find in its original never-framed condition. No tears & no foxing evident! No real or significant damage on this beautiful Print aside from the tiny & negligible exceptions of: Ultra-minimal (only a handful) of very slight & very small crescent-creases scattered here & there in the image area which aren’t even noticeable except very lightly from behind and aren’t worth mentioning either; There is other ultra-minimal & very slight small creases scattered here & there in the outer margin areas, as well as tiny dog-ear bends in a few outer margin corners and some extremely minimal outer margin edge-wear with some dents & dings here & there—all outer margin issues are completely negligible since they can easily be trimmed off or matted & framed out. Negligible/no real or noticeable toning of the paper stock from age, especially amidst the ivory color of the paper stock itself. This Print has never been framed which is always more desirable to collectors since it has never been exposed to older non-archival materials, matburn or lightfade. What a beauty!
