ITEM DESCRIPTION
This is an antique small - miniature even folding hacksaw of the 19th Century.
It has very nice flat and polished COW HORN handles which are the pistol grip end shape. It has 3 polished flat rivets holding the scales in place and a vacant long oval cartouche on one side only.
See the spine, you can see the central steel spring as well as the two fine brass sheets which are decorated like the milled edge of coins.
Quality made but does NOT have a makers name in the usual place. It has not had a lot of use as the hacksaw is still sharp and its still "blued" as well.
This to me is Georgian to early Victorian period and possibly from a military field or Doctors APUTATION set or similar.
It could be a SAMPLE miniature size folding hacksaw as well of course, or just a gentleman's " novelty " item of the period for the aristocracy families only.
No maker's marks at all but it looks English to me and most probably from Sheffield
If anyone can tell me its actual purpose I would be grateful, as in, is it from a surgeons field amputation set or just an aristocrats pocket item ?
If you are into miniature items I also have a silver CUCUMBER SAW listed in my ebay shop.
