Presented is an excellent Japanese Meiji period Imari porcelain vase. This vase
is made in a striking square form with beveled shoulders, tapering down to the
base. The vase is hand painted with a scene on each panel, repeated twice. Two
sides have an idyllic landscape scene with trees over a wooden bridge or garden
path, while the other shows a traditionally garbed figure beneath a vibrantly
flowering tree, with a pagoda in the distance. The painting is all skillfully
done in the rich rust reds and cobalt blues of the Imari palette, with sumptuous
gilt detailing.

This piece is in great overall condition. There is some wear to the gilding
here and there, notably on the vertical edges of the sides and around the top
edge. The painted decoration is in great shape, and the porcelain itself has no
chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs. The underside is unglazed, as is
not atypical for a piece of this age, with some writing in grease pencil or the
like.

The vase stands about 8 1/4 inches tall and measures about 3 3/4 inches wide
at the widest point.
