A Superb Ancient Holy Lands Pottery Cup

Ancient (Near East) Canaan / Canaanite.

Bronze Age (circa first half of the 2nd millennium BCE)

Stunning utilitarian form, the rounded body of shallow profile, leading up to a slightly flared rim. The rounded base without a 'foot', but stable. Affixed with a beautifully fashioned vertical handle, with pointed thumb-rest.

This is a very fine example, highly tactile and feels wonderful in the hand, with gorgeous weathered surface and colouration.

Provenance:

Acquired by myself in 2019, direct from the estate clearance of Islwyn Watkins (1938 - 2018).

(See Wikipedia for more information on Islwyn Watkins - he was an academic and prolific collector of fine and interesting ceramics).

Dimensions:

To follow shortly.

Condition:

In very good order for age. Two old chips away to the rim. A short hairline to the rim. A blackened burn / soot area internally to the rim, as clearly shown. Surface wear and scale / deposits from age and burial. Wonderful object.

Delivery:

All items are packed with care, to a high standard and sent via tracked and signed for courier.
