Features and further detailsA highly effective, market leading, traditional shock treatment product, these calcium hypochlorite granules have an available chlorine level of a minimum of 70% making them a perfect chlorine shock for pool and tub water problem solving. Granular Shock Chlorine is very effective at restoring water back to normal when it starts to look murky and dull, usually after high bather load or from algae infestations. Chlorine shock also destroys other waterborne bacteria, germs and other micro-organisms that can be present in warm pool and hot tub water. Pool, Spa and Hot Tub water should be chlorinated at all times, always test the water first for the correct chlorine levels before use. Check the level regularly with a Test Kit or Test Strips and maintain a chlorine level of between 1-3ppm for Pools & 3-5ppm (parts per million) for Spas & Hot Tubs. Granular Shock Chlorine should be pre-dissolved in a clean bucket or warm water until the granules are fully dissolved. This can then be poured around the pool or hot tub while the jets/pumps are running to aid distribution in the water. Do not use more than 100g of granules per 10 litres of warm bucket water. To properly shock bathing water a chlorine level of approx 10mg/l or 10ppm should be achieved. This level will slowly diminish as it destroys the organic matter, germs, bacteria or any algae in the water and will diminish even quicker if the water is exposed to sunlight. Once the levels have reached their optimum for bathing again 1-3mg/l or 1-3ppm for pools and 3-5mg/l or 3-5ppm for spas and hot tubs safe bathing can then be resumed. It maybe necessary to check other parameter are in place after shocking, such as pH and Alkalinity levels to get the best results from any further chemicals used in the pool or tub. Chlorine shock can sometimes increase pH levels slightly but this can easily be adjusted by the addition further water or by using a pH minus/decreaser product. It is recommended to shock pool and tub water every few weeks when a pool or tub is in daily use and preferably a day before you plan to use it for bathing. This allows time for correct bather level adjustments if necessary. The shocking process may be expedited depending on the state of the water and the amount of contaminants in it. The more dirty, contaminated or algae the water contains, the quicker the chlorine shock will reduce to near normal levels as it eats away at these. Cleaner pool and hot tub water may take longer for chlorine levels to reduce back to normal after a shock but again this can be expedited by adding further plain water or exposing the water to sunlight. Ideally a 24hr period should be allowed for the chlorine shock to work its magic before adjusting levels and commencing bathing. Always test and make sure levels are correct before using your pool or hot tub. It may be necessary to brush the floor and side walls of plastic pools or hot tubs with a soft pool brush to agitate a severe algae infestation (see images). As algae tends to cling to to small indents in the plastic liner. Leave filtration systems running until required effect has been achieved. Chlorine is most effective when water pH levels are maintained between the ideal range of 7.2 to 7.6. Check pH levels regularly with a Test Kit, Strips or pH Meter. Keep away from Heat / Sparks / Open Flames / Hot Surfaces. Do Not Eat, Drink or Smoke while using this product. Do not mix with other chemicals. Wear suitable gloves, eye protection and face mask. Open outdoors if possible when dry or in well ventilated room. Do not allow granules to get wet before or while stored. A strong chlorine smell may be emitted when opening the lid so keep face away and avoid breathing in smell directly. Store locked up. Always read label thoroughly. Warnings: Avoid breathing in any Dust / Fumes / Gas / Mist / Vapours / Spray from this product. Avoid release to the environment. Wash thoroughly after use.
