Victorian Coach or Carriage Lamp
Patented "Raydyot", this handsome square lamp has hand blown finely bevelled, brass framed glass panels,
one front and one side facing. On the other side, a door which hinges downward with
a small red glass bullseye lens within a brass porthole.
Capped by a hooded chimney vent.
Retaining its original bracket and top hanging ring
Never converted to electricity, the inside is in good order with the silver-plated
reflective surfaces largely still clean and shining.
Some light surface corrosion to the iron elements of the casing, though this has been stopped
in its tracks by a carefully applied coat of red paint in the not too distant past.
The thinness and ripple of the original hand blown glass (a remarkable
survival though the lens has sustained a crack) and the quality
of brasswork suggests this is an early model of a
lamp that was in production for many years.
