Yamaha Corporation of Japan has manufactured world-class brass instruments and accessories for years.  Their early efforts, based on the Nikkan firm's work, were based on Vincent Bach and other designs.  Early mouthpiece designs were a streamlined design of sorts and didn't have the Yamaha brand.  By the late 1960s, they had entered into a collaboration with Renold Schilke to improve their instruments and designs, leading to Yamaha adopting the Schilke/Scarlett nomenclature for mouthpieces.

The 8E2 is similar to the Schilke version, but with a smoother shoulder and slightly larger inner cup diameter.  The 8 is a somewhat small size, with the deepest cup E, and round rim number 2.  The backbore is standard but still slightly larger than the Schilke version.
The sound is dark but still somewhat defined, not super fuzzy, with a standard length trumpet shank.  It's obviously not suited for the upper register, but good for jazz, mellow solo tone, or even trumpet-shank marching mellophone.  Speaking of which, it's a bit shallower than the Reynolds/Olds 16 mellophone mouthpiece.

This example has the exterior used in the 1980s, somewhat inspired by Schilke and European blanks.  There are some light nicks and microscratches in places, and the shank opening is round.  Apparently this came from old dealer stock, and it has barely been used.  It doesn't appear in the current Yamaha catalog for trumpet or cornet mouthpieces, so don't miss an opportunity to get this model in excellent shape!
