Hello friends,

This is a new Davis Brothers knife, a Custom # 14 Wood Carving  Detail Knife. This one was made with a medium sized blade, great for all around use.  It has a curved cutting edge with a curved spine and tip. With this complementary handle style, made of unique Spalted Holly , it makes a really attractive combination.  This knife was hand forged by a carver, for carvers, right here on the Pacific Northwest Coast.  Davis Bros., well known for high quality hand forged NW Coast style woodcarving tools, will make a limited number of some favorites.  We make a wide selection of Crook or Crooked knives, Detail knives and Hook knives, as well as Chip Carving and Whittling knives.  Detail knives  are used in accompaniment with crook knives, as well as chip carving and other  stock removal knives.

SAFETY FIRST! : This blade is extremely sharp. Please take care when removing from package.  Always be aware of where  you are cutting, and do not put hands, fingers or other parts of your body in the path of the blade.  Always wear a cut-resistant carving glove on the hand not holding the knife.  And please keep this knife safely away from children.

WORKMANSHIP:  Each knife is unique and hand crafted, with no automated processes used in the more than 30 machining, forging and woodworking tasks for each one.  Some very fine tool marks may be visible on the knives. I do not attain absolute machine-like perfection, but strive to combine art, beauty and utility.  The look and feel of this tool when held is beautiful, smooth, and inspires the work at hand.

BLADE: It was made using 1095 high carbon blade steel, ground to shape then forged, refined and hardened.  It  was then tempered to keep a durable, keen edge and is extremely sharp. The blade is 2 " long, and tapers  from 7/16" over the length of the blade. The blade profile has a slight curvature along the cutting edge which makes it relatively easy to sharpen.

HANDLE: For many years we have have saved aside wood with special character and can offer unusual, beautiful and unique handles. This one is Spalted Holly from a tree that grew in a friend's yard. It lay on the ground just long enough to develop striking spalted dark patterns while retaining it's hardness and strength, for a truly outstanding look. I use this wood sparingly, as I don't have a lot of it and there won't be any more when it is gone. Holly is tough and hard combined with beauty, and takes a velvety finish. This shape is very comfortable in your hand and works in harmony with the blade shape to make a great knife. It is finished with hand rubbed natural Shellac and Carnauba Wax.

CONSTRUCTION:  This knife is 7 1/2" overall, with a 2" long blade that is 7/16" wide before tapering to a point.  The cutting edge has a gradual curvature overall and at the tip with a gentle curve to the spine.  The blade is set with epoxy and further secured with two bronze rivets.

CARVING CHARACTERISTICS: I have used a blade similar to this for many years in my knife shop. It is very handy for lots of general cutting tasks. This blade is ideal for carving and whittling in the round, as well as roughing out of carvings. As the end is pointed, It will also do cleanup, detail work and stop cuts. The curvature of the edge allows smooth curves to be cut while incising and slicing.  With a double bevel edge, this knife can be used with either hand, and cuts well either pushing or pulling. The blade has plenty of strength for these tasks, but should not be used for prying. For best performance, when sharpening this tool both sides should be touched up.

I offer a 30 day return policy and will personally work to resolve any issues.  I strive for Quality and Customer Satisfaction.
