I'm pleased to offer what must be among the rarest publications to feature Frank Miller's art: Fan's Zine #3, a mimeographed fanzine published years before Miller entered professional comics. I don't see a publication date, but Miller's cover is dated 5/72 and the back cover carries a postmark of September 25, so I am guessing it may have been published around the fall of 1972.

Miller is credited as associate editor in charge of art for this special horror issue and signed all the drawings except one, including the cover, two full-page interior pieces (one involving King Kong), a gag cartoon of what seems to be Batman chasing Wonder Woman, and more. The 15-year-old Miller was not yet a pro-caliber artist, but the work is certainly recognizable as his.

It's a little hard to describe this issue's condition, as the production values were poor in the first place. It's mimeographed onto cheap yellow paper, badly stapled, and only the cover came out really legibly. The interiors are faint and hard to make out. In addition, there is a stain on the cover along with some aging at the bottom, along with rips at the edges, curls, and creases. The back cover is just barely holding on, mostly via the top staple, and is liable to fall off in routine handling; in fact, it did fall off, and I put it back on. Still: This publication is so obscure I've only found one reference to it via Google. The press run must have been truly tiny. Now's your chance to own a Frank Miller publication that almost nobody saw in the first place.
