One-of-a-Kind.

This is a very special Exploratory item from the Marx Trains Archives.

I surmise sometime after Marx Trains developed and produced their NYC Dreyfus Hudson, they entertained the idea of making a Chrome-Plated Burlington Engine and Tender, possibly inspired by the silver CB&Q “Aeolus” streamlined Hudson.

Here is the chrome-plated Burlington tender they created to decide the feasibility of developing a set.

Unfortunately, this was as far it went. Probably the process of chrome-plating both engine and tender made production costs prohibitive.

Too bad because it would have made an attractive engine and tender.

This unique 8-wheel tender shows “Burlington” on one side and “CB&Q 910” on the other side. There are a few blemishes on the chrome. Not sure if they can be polished out. Sticky paper tag attached to axle reads “N-472” and the letters “R D” are scratched on underside of frame.

There was no Certificate of Authenticity sent by Marx, so I am showing the sales receipt from Marx Trains in the photographs to verify authenticity.

As with most archive pieces, there is no box.

Please Note: Items from the Marx Archives Collection may or may not show signs of handling and storage in the form of a tiny chip or scratch or dent. Generally, they are new and unrun. I try to point out any obvious flaws.

I will combine shipping whenever possible on multiple items bought the same or next day. Message me if you are planning to bid on another item the following day. Please note: Due to size, weight, or shape, not all items can be combined. When purchasing multiple items, do not pay individually for each item, please wait for the combined shipping invoice.
