Original watercolour, pastel and pencil, painting; "The Tackle", painted for the 1934 John Player Cigarette Card.  Created for the set of 50 cigarette card series; "Hints on Association Football ".  Painted on card, the image measuring approximately over 4.75 x 9.5 inches (12.5 x 24.5 cms).  Comes with a double mount and the cigarette card.  Please note:  The drawing has a cut through it towards the right side (shown close-up in the last photo).  It would seem that whoever did the mount went off course a bit.

Provenance: This came from Mardon, Son & Hall of Bristol, who were famous for dealing with the art and printing of the tobacco trade.  The business flourished after being set up in the Victorian era and was able to employ the best artists available.  The detail and quality of their work is incredible.  A team of artists would work for several months producing up to fifty hand painted pieces centred around a certain theme and then present it to the client, often Wills Tobacco company who would then authorise the reproduction.
