Presented is a three cent Civil War stamp token sponsored by Ayers Cathartic
Pills, patented August 12, 1862. The stamp itself is intact and retaining great deep rose on alabaster color with all fine "netting" texture around George Washington's bust, as well as the details of his hair, ear, eye, mouth, neck and hair tie. "THREE CENTS" displays clearly below the bust. The mica, covering the stamp has one tiny bubble and two scratches, not piercing through the film; one scratch is 4 mm and occurs at the neck, and the other, 3 mm scratch is over the "S" in cents. These show in reflecting light, as you can see in our measurement photo.

The back of the metal "coin" is lustrous, crisp and clear--truly excellent condition. The polished rim, beaded border, double arrows, and all text, "Ayers Cathartic Pills", "The currency to pass", "Pat Aug 12, 1862. J. Gault." -- in crisp raised relief. Look at the photos and you can see that there are two places on the rim where the arc is just slightly flattened, but this does take a great deal of scrutiny to detect.
