While the Pennants set was reported as being limited to 51 sets, for OCD collectors it is far rarer than that. Pennants had 7 pack-inserted color variations that would have been submitted: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Purple Felt. Also a Red foil parallel variation that was tougher seeded than the base felt colors. Upon exchange submission, collectors were allowed to send in a mixed color pennants set. As a result there will be on average around 8 of each base color felt card. Likely as many as 12, for some as few as 5. And no way to know how many of each! As a promotion to its growing customer base in 1998, the innovators at Playoff Corporation challenged collectors to complete full sets of each of the three different Contenders sets: Leather, Pennant, and Ticket. Collectors could then submit their complete sets to Playoff for a redemption prize as well as a special treatment to their cards. Each "Registered Exchange" card would be stamped on back in gold foil with the number in which its set was received back by Playoff.

Up for sale here are singles from the Pennants exchange set. Each is stamped boldly on the reverse "No 14". While 51 sets were allegedly produced, these cards very rarely come to market. Fantastic find for the player collector. Cards are generally in the NM range with some wear evident. Many of the stars have been PSA graded. The set is very condition sensitive and the handling involved with submission (and an era that could not conceive of today's grading phenomenon) led nearly all the cards in the set to be in the NM range.
