Set in colonial Trinidad, the story tells of a young man of Indian descent trying to move himself out of his impoverished upbringing and turn himself into a successful politician. A satire of the democratic process in Trinidad and Tobago which conveys the consequences of political change on the multicultural society post election a few years prior to independence. There is a crease mark to the bottom corner of the front board and minor shelf wear to the top and bottom edges of the spine. Lively, funny and malicious, this is the story of a man who claws his way free of abject poverty, fighting his in-laws at every turn. It s an ecstatic evocation of Caribbean life.
