A fine and fairly large
studio pottery jug by leading British potter Jim Malone. Stoneware.
Incised decoration. Wood ash glaze overlaid with a creamy high-silica
nuka-type glaze. Potter's marks (personal mark and "A" for Ainstable")
to the foot, partially glaze-filled. Dimensions (approximate): 31cm x
19cm x 18cm. Very good condition and as new, but there is a narrow,
non-penetrating and partially-glaze filled firing crack to the underside
of the top of the handle (see photos). Hopefully priced accordingly.
Otherwise a very good example. Jim Malone is one of the leading
post-Leach British potters and there is a widely held view that his
stoneware jugs and pitchers are the best of his generation.
