Nelson Line to South America

Circa 1930. Colour lithograph on paper. Published by Nelson Line. Signed ‘AOBI’ bottom left corner. Measures 78cm x 61cm. Condition: Very good displayable condition. Header text trimmed off. Some horizontal folds. Some wrinkling and edge damage bottom right.

This stunning poster for the Nelson Line features the Highland Monarch, a 14000 tonne passenger liner built in 1928 and operated under the Nelson brand until 1932 when the line was brought under the Royal Mail Lines branding in 1932.  In 1939 the Highland Monarch was requisitioned for troopship duties and was returned to commercial service in 1946. She returned to service on the South America service in 1948 and operated into the early 1960s.

A vibrant pictorial map of South America showing arises from the ships funnel line smoke.  The destination cities are shown with the route lines marked in orange. This is a beautifully designed poster.

Research as to who the designer is continues and this will be added when we know more!
