This
complete set of 204 Baseball Hall of Fame Metallic Plaques was produced and
sold by the National Baseball Hall of Fame during the years 1981 to 1989. The
plaques are standard baseball card size (2.5 x 3.5 inches) and made of bronze
anodized aluminum on which are reproduced the actual plaques of each Hall of
Famer up through 1989 when production was suspended. The backs are blank. Only
1000 plaques of each HOF member were produced. They were sold by subscription
through the mail in 21 separate installments of 9 plaques each from 1981 to
1984, followed by an installment of 7 plaques in 1986 and a final installment
of 8 plaques in 1989.
Those plaques
which were not purchased through the mail were offered individually in the HOF
gift shop. In addition, a number were given to members of the HOF and their
families. Interest in the installment purchases eventually waned and a source
from the HOF has estimated that less than 100 complete sets were ever purchased
from the HOF. Due to sets being broken up and plaques sold individually, many
used for autographs, far less than that number of complete sets exist today.
This original
owner limited edition set is in the same condition as when purchased from the
HOF, having been kept in plastic pocket sheets in an album from the time of original
purchase. The plaques have never been stacked. The 3-ring binder album, which is
not the original optional album, is included.
This is a
pristine, beautiful, and rare original set.
