A wonderful late Victorian Chinese soapstone mausoleum and tomb figures, c1900.

Dating from the Qing Dynasty, this is a burial memento that has been hand carved in miniature form.

The mausoleum has a detailed foliate design including a large flower, impressively hand engraved in relief. The back has 'X11' etched into it.

A carved red agate coffin sits in the entrance and pushes back against a fitted metal spring. At one time, a tile 'door' would have been present to slide in the front and keep the coffin hidden inside. Note: this is now missing. Additionally, there would have been a small plaque at the front where now only 3 small pierced holes remain. Both could be replaced if desired.

Standing with the mausoleum are two well carved tomb/guardian figures.

Measurements: the mausoleum is 100mm length x 50mm height x 60mm wide; the tomb/guardian figures are approx 79mm tall x 20mm wide (at base); the coffin is 19mm x 11mm x 10mm.

In good antique condition; there is some chipping to the soapstone (upper rim, back & outer base of mausoleum and hat & corner of base to one tomb figure). All commensurate with the great age & use of the piece. You are encouraged to study all the photographs provided which can be enlarged so you can have the best view of condition (better than I can describe in words).

This is a rare item, fantastic curio and sought after piece for collectors.
